Polish Prime Minister Calls for Pressure on Budapest to Ratify Sweden's NATO Entry

"We need to put pressure on our friends in Budapest to do what they need to do," Prime Minister Donald Tusk said during Monday's press conference. "I hope that your saga with NATO will soon come to an end. It would be an unforgivable mistake if one NATO country blocked the accession of another, which is ready to actively work for common security. You can count on Poland here," said the head of the Polish government to the visiting Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson in Warsaw.

Hungary is currently the last of the NATO members that has not yet voted for the Swedish accession. e government cites internal uncertainty within the Fidesz faction as grounds for caution, expressing a reluctance to jeopardize the vote's outcome. They underscore the significance of the Swedish Prime Minister's visit to Hungary as pivotal for fostering trust and confidence in this delicate matter.

Donald Tusk: such behavior is unacceptable

"I wonder what the actual reason for this delay is," said Prime Minister Donald Tusk at a conference after the meeting with his Swedish counterpart. He added that he did not see a single rational argument for extending the voting procedure on the accession protocol in the Hungarian parliament. "From Poland's point of view, such behavior is unacceptable," noted the head of the Polish government.

Swedish Prime Minister: I am going to Budapest

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson also stated that he had talked to the Hungarian Prime Minister several times in recent weeks. – It seems to me that there is a strong will to finalize Sweden's NATO accession process. I'm already waiting for the scheduled meeting to finalize it – noted the head of the Swedish government.
