Polish Defense Minister Urges Hungarian Consent for Sweden's NATO Accession
Polityka

– Hungarians should immediately agree to Sweden's accession to NATO; it is worth assembling a coalition to exert positive pressure on Hungary on this issue, said the Deputy Prime Minister, head of the Ministry of National Defense, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, at Tuesday's press conference.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister and the head of the Ministry of National Defence, Sweden's accession to the North Atlantic Alliance is an issue concerning "the fundamental issue of security in Europe and the world, strengthening NATO's northern flank."

"After Turkey's positive decision and agreement to Sweden's NATO accession, I firmly believe that Hungary should promptly follow suit. Any delay or obstruction in strengthening the alliance, which Hungary is also a part of, is detrimental not only to the Alliance but also to our countries, including Hungary," stated Kosiniak-Kamysz, announcing that Poland will raise this issue in various formats - and in the Visegrad Group , and at the forum of European Union ministers."Next week I will be at NATO Headquarters and I will also talk about it with the NATO Secretary General", said Kosiniak-Kamysz.

According to the Polish Minister of Defense, not only Poland, but also other countries will raise the issue of consent to Sweden's accession to NATO in bilateral relations with Hungary. "It is worth assembling a coalition to exert positive pressure and positive emotions to encourage Hungary to make a decision as soon as possible" - argued Minister Kosiniak-Kamysz. As he emphasized at the press conference, he cannot imagine Hungary blocking Sweden's accession to NATO in the long run.
