Retired general Petr Pavel scored a narrow win over ex-premier Andrej Babis in the first round of the Czech presidential election on Saturday.

With the ballots from 99.9 per cent of the polling statins counted, Pavel had 35.39 per cent of the vote compared with 35.00 per cent for Babis.
