Hungarian PM Viktor Orbán congratulated Poland’s ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party Sunday’s election victory on Hungarian TV.

During a TV programme on Sunday after Hungary’s local and Poland’s parliamentary elections, Viktor Orbán congratulated Poland’s ruling party winning the poll on Sunday.

“From a Hungarian point of view the elections in Poland were very important, the ruling party won a majority in parliament and will be able to form a government. I congratulate my Polish friends,” Mr Orbán said.

The ruling Law and Justice party won Sunday’s parliamentary elections in Poland, however, the full results are not yet known.

According to the latest information at the time of writing published by the State Electoral Committee (PKW), after counting votes from 71.89 percent of the polling stations the ruling PiS party gets 45.81 percent of the votes, the Civic Coalition 25.46 percent, the Left 11.90 percent, the Polish People’s Party 8.96 percent, and the Confederation 6.71 percent.

According to the exit poll data published on Sunday evening, 61.1 percent of Poles went to the polling stations on Sunday, a record turnout, highest since Poland’s first partially-free election in 1989.

Law and Justice party leader, Jarosław Kaczyński, has had a close relationship with Mr Orbán, as both countries cooperate within the V4 Group. In the past, Mr Kaczyński repeatedly said that “we could have Budapest in Warsaw,” referring to Mr Orbán’s rule in Hungary.
