The „Satan’s bus” is not going to Hel(l) anymore
Obyczaje

The "Satanic" bus to Hel will change its number. The transport company PKS Gdynia informed that the famous line 666 from Dębki to Hel is going down in history. "This year we turn the last six upside down!" the carrier wrote on Facebook. The line number has aroused great emotions for years. According to some, line 666 was "spreading anti-Christian propaganda" and "Satanism".

Line 666 from Dębki to Hel has been a local attraction for years. Tourists loved taking pictures of themselves in front of the bus. The PKS Gdynia transport company informed about the change of number in social media.

"This year we are turning the last 6 upside down! Already on June 24, 2023 from Dębki, Krokowa, Karwia, Ostrów, Jastrzębia Góra, Rozewie, Chłapowo, Władysławowo, Chałup, Kuźnica, Jastarnia and Jurata to Hel will take you line 669!" - we read in the carrier's entry.

Since  2018, the editors of the Catholic portal fronda.pl demanded a change in the line number. "By bus 666 to Hel(l), i.e. to hell. Seemingly an innocent joke, but it's hard not to consider it malicious inspiration, calling things by their names - devilish" – it was written. The author of the publication argued that line 666 "undermines the Christian order of the Polish state and its foundations, and hence - the good of all of us".

Why was the line number 666? — A few years ago, we changed the Polish model of naming our lines only with the names of the final stops and changed it to the European one: with numbers, because it is easier for passengers. And since the routes in the Puck district have numbers from 650 to 669, it was clear that one of them had to go to Hel. And that's how it turned out... - explained Mariusz Józefowicz from the PKS company in an interview with "Dziennik Bałtycki".
