Hungary came in first in the European Union in terms of vaccination against the coronavirus, ahead of Malta, according to the latest summary of the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).

Due to the surge of new variants in Hungary, Chief Medical Officer Cecília Müller is urging people to get vaccinated as soon as possible. From March onwards, the second jab of the Pfizer/BioNtech vaccine will be given 35 days after the first vaccination, instead of the former three weeks. Furthermore, the second dose of AstraZeneca will be given 12 weeks after the first vaccination, instead of four weeks.

The Meeting of Presidents of the V4 Group will be held on February 9-10 in the Presidential Residence on the Hel Peninsula. – We have to build strong Central Europe – Krzysztof Szczerski, the presidential plenipotentiary for the establishment of the International Policy Bureau said in the radio interview.

The first shipment of the Russian coronavirus vaccine has arrived in Hungary. The 40,000 doses were enough to inoculate 20,000 people. Hungary has approved five COVID-19 vaccines: Pfizer, Moderna AstraZeneca, Sputnik V and Sinopharm.

Hungary Pharmaceuticals and Food Institute approved the use of the vaccine developed by the Chinese company Sinopharm against COVID-19. Thus, Hungary became the first European Union country to approve the Chinese vaccine. Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó wrote on his Facebook page that he had signed an agreement to purchase the vaccine, enough to inoculate 2.5 million people, after talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Friday. 

– Measures imposed in November to curb the coronavirus pandemic will remain in place in Hungary until March 1 to prevent the third wave – Gergely Gulyas, the minister heading the Prime Minister's Office said. ​
